Description

Artist: Emil McAvoy Materials: Cast aluminium, enamel. Date: 2007

Due to the explicit nature of this artwork, and the terms and conditions of Trade Me, a cropped image of the sculpture has been displayed here. For a full image see http://www.emilmcavoy.com. Warning: this image contains a representation of naked human genitalia.

The listing is a limited edition sculpture called 'Better Work Stories.' Number 1 in this edition is currently on view at the Waikato Museum in Hamilton. The artist is a finalist in the 2007 Trust Waikato National Contemporary Art Award.

Proceeds from this sale will be donated to a charity or charities to help combat violence and sexual violence in Aotearoa New Zealand. Bidders are invited to suggest appropriate charities.

The sculpture comes with a custom made crate and archival packaging/storage materials, and a certificate of authenticity. The art work can be easily mounted on your wall, and comes with all attachments.

Note: Number 1 in the edition, which is on display at the Waikato Art Awards, is only available for sale through the Waikato Society of Arts, as per the conditions of the Waikato Art Award.

The reserve price has been set to cover the direct costs of producing the artwork.

I have listed the sculpture because I want to put the proceeds to positive use. However, as this auction is a part of the art work, I welcome discussion and feedback about the work via the Question and Answer function.

If you would like more information about the sculpture please visit http://www.emilmcavoy.com for an artist's statement concerning the inspiration for the work, and a PDF catalogue which you can download from the site free, with essays by curator Emma Bugden, and John Minto, a senior leader in the 1981 Springbok Tour protest movement.

Please also note the email function on http://www.emilmcavoy.com has been suspended for the duration of the auction, as per the terms and conditions of Trade Me.
