The painting depicts what every women’s footballer dreams of – the Women’s World Cup Trophy, a symbol of global triumph in the beautiful game. The painting was done predominantly with aerosol paint (graffiti art), with some detail done using acrylic paint pens.

About the Artist: My name is Hannah Wilkinson, I play football for the New Zealand Women’s National team, The Football Ferns. I recently played in this years’ FIFA Women’s World Cup. It was my fourth World Cup overall, and I am also a 3 x Olympian. When I’m off the pitch, I’m creating – painting, drawing and digital art. My artistic pursuits offer a healthy balance off the pitch, allowing space to mentally offload pressures associated with being an elite athlete, while also enhancing the focus-flow state needed to perform both artistically and athletically.

Why this charity: As part of our preparation for the World Cup, the Football Ferns were based in Napier playing matches against Vietnam and Italy. As a team, we did some community work and visited those deeply affected by Cyclone Gabrielle in the Hawkes Bay region. We developed a connection with the people, and truly felt the devastating effect this disaster had. The community is still reeling with the aftermath, and remain in need of support in order to rebuild. As Football Ferns, we are more than just athletes. We are more than a national sporting body. The position we are in grants us platforms to help our communities in need here in Aotearoa. It is a part of staying connected to our land and the people, as we represent Aotearoa on the world stage.
