The relationship between a son and his father is turned on its head by startling advances in science. In each of the stories in this collection the twin themes of obsession and determination are apparent. A character gets an idea in his head, a hook on his emotions, a need that has to be fulfilled, and he does everything possible to carry it through, no matter how difficult.
