After much persuasion by a client, vet Michael Morton agrees to travel to North America in pursuit of the perfect red setter, visions of snowy peaks and savage Indians whirling in his head.
Unfortunately, although the scenery in Michigan and Ontario is as wonderful as he'd imagined, the people seem rather odd. They're all 'into organic produce and 'have difficulty relating' - particularly to him.
Only the animals - Clarence and Roger, the bulls; Darwin, the monkey; and a whole clutch of setters - make the West as wild as Michael hoped. But then, animals are always much more interesting people than humans...
