Nothing much ever happens in Waimatua; only the school jubilee every twenty-five years. When Billy Williams is elected chairman of the Jubilee Committee, his wife Pauline is not pleased. While Billy is busy with the small town politics, Pauline is quietly undergoing a transformation and becoming more assertive, and their fourteen year old daughter is falling in love.
