Description
THE RAINCLIFF STORY The Raincliff Story by Edward Parr and David Reynolds was published in 2001. It has 418 pages in black on pale cream text paper. There is a colour photo in the frontispiece and another fold-out map in colour. It is sewn and case bound in dark green leather cloth with gold foiled lettering to the spine. The dust jacket is in sepia on white gloss art paper and is clear varnished. Printed by Beynon Print of Timaru, and bound by Cartwright & Son, Christchurch. Only a small and limited number was published. The book describes itself as a chronicle of the people and their lives on the sixty farms which were established on the 3000 acres Raincliff Station at South Downs, South Canterbury. The period covered is from 1853 to 2000 and includes farm diary entries, photographs and is a rich source of family history and stories from the period. If you are a student of colonial life on the backcountry runs of New Zealand, you will find this a rich vein to explore. Most copies are in the hands of libraries or genealogy groups so this could be a once in a lifetime chance to own your own copy.
