Hawke's Bay on show Celebrating 150 years of History 1863-2013

Through almost its entire existence the fortunes of Hawke's Bay farming industry have been inextricably linked to those of its primary promoter, the Hawke's Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society. Hawke's Bay on show weaves those changing fortunes and the progress of our agricultural industry in this history of the Society.

The Annual Spring Show, the enduring and principal event of the Society, first held 150 years prior to the publication of this book, has been the place where the province’s town and country have come together. In this respect, no other event comes close to rivalling it. In facilitating the Show, the Society has made an enormous contribution to the essentially good relations and understanding between the region's rural and urban communities.
