brand new in box. why buy second hand scanners are scanners legal? Yes. Scanners are legal in New Zealand. However it is illegal to act on anything you hear on them. You may for example sometimes hear addresses, names, car registrations etc. It would be a breach of privacy to pass any of this information on. There is no transmit function on these. It is for listening only.
WHAT CAN I HEAR? A range of people use radios you can listen to. Police, Fire, Ambulance St Johns, Civil Defence, Marine, Aviation, Dept of conservation, Amateur ham radio etc.
CAN I HEAR THE POLICE EVERYWHERE? No. In Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch Police use digital encrypted radios. These cannot be listened to. However you can still maybe listen to other communications on this scanner in those areas
