Description

A Red Balloon gift card, loaded with $100 may seem appealing at first, but the cost of the card and its impractical spending limitations make it a ridiculous gift to give someone.

I received this card as a Christmas gift two years ago, and despite attempts to give it away, it keeps returning to me (almost like it's cursed). Keep in mind that the credit expires three years after purchase, leaving you with just under a year to spend it, if possible. Good luck and sorry in advance

Why I despise the concept of gift cards;

Not Universally Accepted: Unlike cash, gift cards are not universally accepted, and recipients may face challenges finding suitable places to use them. This Red Balloon gift card is especially difficult to spend as it’s limited to activities, which by nature limits it to touristy areas. Fees: Gift cards cost to manage and produce and that cost is passed on to you, the consumer. Expiration Dates: Cash isn’t fruit and it won’t go off, unless you pay to convert it to a gift card, then it will expire! Imagine if your bank told you that whatever money you have remaining will ‘expire’ in a certain number of years if you don’t use it. Dependence on Retailer Stability: If a retailer goes out of business, the gift card may become worthless. Activation Issues: Some gift cards may require activation, which can be an additional step for both the buyer and the recipient. Lastly: Gift cards are easily lost, misplaced or forgotten about… Will you be able to use it once you find it?
