Hippophae rhamnoides, or Sea Buckthorn, is a hardy deciduous shrub with nutritious orange berries. It's great for permaculture and edible landscapes. Native to Europe and Asia, Sea Buckthorn is exceptionally resilient and adaptable, making it a great addition to permaculture systems and edible landscapes.

Edible Berries: Rich in vitamins and antioxidants, with a tangy flavour. Use them fresh, juiced, or in sauces and jams.

Growth Habit: Dense shrub, 2-6 meters tall, with silvery-green foliage and thorny branches.

Nitrogen Fixer: Improves soil health, making it a valuable companion plant.

Growth Requirements:

Height: 2-6 meters.

Hardiness: Withstands temperatures down to -40C.

Sunlight: Full sun for best fruit production.

Soil: Well-drained, but tolerates poor soils and coastal conditions.

Germination: Sow seeds after 6-8 weeks of cold stratification at 4C. Plant 0.5-1cm deep. Keep soil moist until established.
