Here you are looking at a possible vintage 1960’s Keilwerth stencil Alto saxophone with the label of “Carl Ludwig”. This saxophone was handmade in Western Germany. It has rolled toneholes, beautifully detailed engravings, REAL Mother-of-pearl key inlays and a mother-of-pearl left hand thumb rest, which is extremely rare. Sound wise it has a darker and warmer sound than a French saxophone, simply said it has an old Keilwerth sound, which is great for Jazz and Latin music, but mellow enough to suit classical music as well. This sax has had about 40 hours of labour done on it to bring it to its glory! It had a COMPLETE REPAD, clean over, and adjusted to suit any player. Key action is quiet and fluid. Springs are nice and strong. Lacquer is at about 70-80% intact. BUT there are a few minuses: In its earlier life the saxophone was owned by a school and they we Smart enough to Engrave their name on the sax (what a shame). The Neck screw is missing and I couldn’t find anything that would fit lying around, but to be honest you don’t really need it as the neck fits perfectly without it. The case isn’t the best around, but does its job well. Comes with a neck-strap and a Yamaha 4C Mouthpiece with cap and ligature. This saxophone would be a great first vintage professional instrument for someone really thinking about music seriously and making the right choice between a hand built german sax over the cheap Asian horns people sell today.
