Description
Spend two days and one night ensuring the survival of one of New Zealand’s most critically endangered birds – the kakapo.
This is a rare opportunity to get close to this unique and iconic parrot and engage with experts from Kakapo Recovery.
Based at the Department of Conservation’s special hand-rearing unit, in Invercargill, you’ll have the chance to be part of a dedicated team that works round the clock to feed and nurture vulnerable kakapo chicks, before they fledge and are released back into the wild, on predator-free Whenua Hou/Codfish Island.
The kakapo experience will take place in May/June 2013.
Fitness isn’t a key requirement for the successful bidder but a willingness to be part of a hard-working team would help.
All money from this auction will go to the Million Dollar Mouse fund – raising $1 million to eradicate mice off the Antipodes Islands and provide a safe habitat for the many animals and seabirds that rely on these islands. Mice, the last remaining pests, eat the eggs and chicks of the seabirds that breed on these islands. http://www.milliondollarmouse.org.
Thanks to The Department of Conservation for kindly donating this experience.
