Do you or someone you know want to get up close and personal with the huge machine that is constructing the Waterview tunnels in Auckland? Called Alice, this totally brilliant machine is like a giant underground factory. It drives a huge hole through the ground that is big enough for three motorway lanes, removing spoil and creating a sealed concrete tunnel as it goes.

There are four “golden tickets” on offer. The tickets are being sold separately, by four separate auctions. The auctions will close on Saturday 6 September 2014.

The four successful bidders will get a once-in-a-lifetime tour of the Waterview Connection project, which is the largest roading and most challenging project ever undertaken in New Zealand. Alice is currently nearing the end of the first tunnel, and the successful bidders will visit her next year when she is on her return journey from Waterview to Owairaka. Ticket holders will be guided by internationally experienced tunnelling experts.

All proceeds from this auction will go to the Waterview Connections’ team in this year’s Ride to Conquer Cancer, a 200km cycle race to raise money towards cancer research and awareness. The Waterview Connection have set a goal to raise $20000 for the Cancer Society through the Ride to Conquer Cancer.
