This 1978 Jaguar XJ6 SLE is a true New Zealand motoring rarity, being one of only 45 examples hand-assembled at the Jaguar assembly plant in Nelson. The SLE (Special Luxury Edition) was a locally built and uniquely specified version of the Series II XJ6, offering Kiwi buyers the elegance and refinement of a Jaguar saloon with features tailored to the New Zealand market.

Powered by Jaguar’s smooth 4.2-litre XK straight-six engine paired with an automatic transmission, the XJ6 delivers the refined performance and quiet cruising that cemented the model as one of the world’s great luxury saloons of its era. Inside, the SLE is trimmed with fine leather upholstery, real wood veneer, and additional touches that set it apart from UK-built models.

The Nelson-built Jaguars hold a special place in New Zealand’s motoring history, being assembled locally from CKD (completely knocked down) kits at the Stoke factory, alongside other British marques.
