Built in 1913, the Clyde Hotel was designed by the famed James Augustus Louis Hay, a prominent New Zealand architect who also composed some of Napiers grand commercial buildings still in use today like the National Tobacco Company building and the Hawke's Bay Art Gallery and Museum.

With 23 bedrooms and 13 bathrooms the Clyde is the single biggest Hotel in Wairoa. Complete with two floors, its decorated foyer leads to both a large bar area with access to the main street and a large dining room attached to a commercial kitchen, skullery, and chef's quarters.
