The Chalet

The Chalet is designed with a nod to the nineteenth century Central Otago buildings, with reference to traditional farm buildings.

Materials emphasise local, rugged character: corrugated profile galvanised steel cladding and timber are used as primary exterior finishes, paired with contemporary aluminium joinery.

Detailing is refined and contemporary, but durable and low maintenance for high-country conditions.

Large areas of glazing to the north facade provide natural light deep into the home.

Internally the main living, kitchen and dining areas are open-plan and oriented to capture north-facing views. Bedrooms and service spaces located to the south of the building. This layout aims to balance generous social space with cosy, sheltered sleeping wings.
