Tuhitarata Estate holds a special place in Aotearoa's history. Settled in the 1840's by Angus and Mary McMaster under the protection of Paramount Chief Te Hiko Piata Tama-i-hikoia, it was one of the country's earliest sheep stations and the birthplace of the first Pakeha child in Wairarapa. The lot is bordered by a protected native bush reserve, managed by the Department of Conservation.
