Description
Makiri Forest is a combination of mature and second rotation plantings growing Pinus Radiata with planted with the intention of supplying the export market. The forest is well located some 41km North West of Gisborne. Makiri Forest combines both mature Pinus Radiata as well as new plantings in 2022. There is a small portion of regenerative crop from previous harvests established in 2019, which has been left for thinning. Total net plantable area of the property is 400ha with 119.3ha mature forest planted between 1993 - 1994, 103.0ha of 2022 plantings, 59.2ha of regen leaving 37.4ha of cut over, ready for planting. Current standing crop is un-pruned targeting structural and export grades of logs. Makiri Forest is registered under 15 carbon accounting areas totaling 206.4ha registered under the stock change accounting method. This allows the imconing purchaser the options of both carbon sequestration as well as harvest opportunities.
