Listing Detail Tabs

This Victorian period "Emerson" electric induction motor was manufactured in St Louis, in the U.S.A. and was first patented in 1893. The last patent date on it is 1899. (Emersons are still producing electric motors etc.) It would have been imported into NZ from new.
It is 100 volts 80 watt, (probably 1/2 hp) and would have been used on something like a lathe. It still has most of its original black (japaning) and some gold outlining paint. I'm unsure whether it still works but It turns freely enough. It weighs about 12.6 kgs, so it's not light. It would have to be the oldest electric motor that I've ever seen.
It appears to be complete but for a couple of screws.

Dimensions: Thickness of motor casting 110mm
Overall thickness including shaft 170mm
Total height including base plate 170mm
The diameter of motor 190mm

Damage: The ceramic switch has a chip out of it. The oil cup has no top.

I withdrew the motor from a recent listing due to inaccurate and incomplete information. My apologies for any inconvenience.
