The Electric Tram once served Auckland (1902-1956), Gisborne (1913-1929),Napier (1913-1931), New Plymouth (1916-1954), Wanganui (1908-1950), Wellington (1904-1964). Christchurch (1905-1954), Dunedin (1905-1956), & Invercargill (1912-1952). Street Cable Cars ran in Dunedin to the hill suburbs (1881-1957).

The Trolley-Bus once served Auckland, New Plymouth, Christchurch, & Dunedin - Wellington is proud of its Trolley-Bus System that continues to glide silently through the city streets.

50 years ago Wellington was the sole remaining city in NZ still running Electric Trams to the suburbs, they were to serve the Capital for another eight years before they succumbed to rubber-tyre vehicles in May 1964

The PHEONIX...

The TRAMCAR HAS SINCE RETURNED TO THE STREETS of Christchurch as a tourist attraction, & there are operating Tramway Museums at Auckland, Wellington & Christchurch. There is a Museum devoted to Trolley-Buses at Foxton. The Christchurch Tourist Trams feature on postcards, TV advertising & tourist brochures - the Tram has become an historical curiosity like horse-draw vehicles & sailing ships.
