A real old stone jar by Powell of Bristol with the name JT Morton Provision Merchant 107, 018 & 109 Leadenhall St London. I am told that this is a very old bottle and probably dates from the late 1840s to 1850-60s I do not actually know, so it is sold as is, but looks like it is very very old. It has a Powell 1849 stamp on the side, partly or mostly obscured. It looks like it would have had a top that slipped into the opening and then twist locked or something like that. (there is no top now, and I do not have it) So there are three cutaway or sloped slotted bits in the rim opening, and there are a couple of chips there as well. But the three cutaway bits are meant to be there. The jar is quite solid. There is a hairline on the side in the middle running mostly or partly vertical, but the hairline does not appear to go to the bottom or the shoulder, so all quite liveable, and its at the bak, not at the front where the Morton wording is. Guessing its volume would have been about a gallon or so. Measures approx 300mm high x 185mm wide at the base. The rim is approx 123mm wide and approx 85mm wide at the narrowest part of the throat. Neat old piece. Great for display. Thanks. refN16375147
