Description Shell money is traditionally used as local currency to pay compensation to settle disputes and for bride price. It is also used as currency to trade for goods and body adornment. Only the local people from Langa Langa Lagoon are in a position to create it, through local custom and the tradition is 300 years old. The different colours possess different values; red shell money being of the highest value, then orange, brown, white and black. These days, shell money is also created as body adornment and sold in local markets to tourists and locals alike.
