Description
This is a gorgeous and incredibly well constructed table, in a traditional Chinese style - a very unusual piece, as most such tables don't exhibit drawers.
The woven reed/bamboo top is an exceptional statement, and would have involved an exceptional amount of work - Judging by other tables, and the wood grain, it looks like it could be constructed largely from elm. The construction is very solid, and exudes quality. The carved chow/cabriole legs are sturdy and beautiful.
I believe this dates within the later 19th Century, late in the Qing Dynasty.
It has some wear, but less than I believe it should exhibit, if it as old as I think - the exterior of the wood is quite faded, but generally tidy - there is a small chip on one of the legs, and a few scrapes on the table.
This is in the style of many of the opium/daybeds from around this era, although it seems a little too short.
In any case, this would make a wonderful feature piece for a range of contemporary spaces.
Most of my information is based off online research, so please correct me if any of it is obviously incorrect. These tables seem to go for a premium online, and I'm sure they're very rare in this market.
The table measures: 1420w x 960d x 400h
I'm unavailable for pickup between September 12th & 26th.
Pickup is in Eden Terrace. Please feel free to ask any questions, Thanks!
