These undated boots likely saw extensive service during WW2.

I have chosen to picture them in exactly "AS FOUND" condition, so that their GOOD (used) condition and 100% ORIGINALITY is perfectly clear

They would look MUCH BETTER if polished up with "Nugget" but then they might be hard to differentiate from the many REPRODUCTIONS that most collectors (or reennactors) need to settle-for as THESE (The Real McCoy) boots very VERY seldom come onto the market = this being the FIRST pair that I have offered for sale in over a decade

SIZE = 7 British

Marked internally by the size as "MD" which likely stands for "(NZ) Ministry of Defence"

SOLD as VERY RARE collectable items for COLLECTION or MUSEUM display use

If you "need" to wear WW2 type boots buy some repros in your exact size, these are TOO RARE to ruin playing 'dress-up'

Ammunition boots, also known as Boots, ankle, General Service (BGS), were the standard footwear for the British Army from the late 1880s until the late 1950s. They replaced the earlier ankle boots that had been in service since the early 1800s.

The term "Ammunition boots" comes from the boots' unusual source. They were procured by the Master Gunner and the Munitions Board at Woolwich (the Regiment of Artillery's headquarters) rather than Horse Guards (the headquarters of the British Army).

They were usually produced at a factory on site, but civilian manufacturers were given contracts to produce them during times of increased demand

Ammunition boots were unlined ankle-boots with leather laces, iron heel-plate & toe-plate, and an iron-studded leather sole. The vamp (front) & quarters (sides) were often made of a contrasting type of leather than the toe case (toe cap) & counter (heel cap), one made of "pebble-grained" (dimpled) leather & the other of smooth leather

They were designed to be hard-wearing & long-lasting rather than comfortable

The hobnail-studded soles made a loud crunching sound when the wearer was marching, earning them the nickname "crunchies"
