Description
Antique Japanese blue and white plate. This is a gorgeous item which would be beautiful on display or could be used for its original purpose as a charger (a large decorative base setting for other dinnerware). It is a solid piece and large in size (slightly over 27 cm in diameter) and is an excellent example of Igezara transferware.
Igezara pottery was made in Japan from the mid 1800s to the early 1900s, but was most popular in the period 1880 – 1910. The plate’s hand printed transferware pattern of trees, mountains, a village and water (with boats) is very traditional and is accented by a border of geometric shapes and flowers.
This plate is in good condition commensurate with it age (please see photos). There are several small unglazed spots and dimples original to manufacture and some fading, wear and light scratches as to be expected given the age of the piece.
Display stand not included.
Pick up in Queenstown could be arranged, otherwise the seller can arrange shipping to purchaser’s preference and the purchaser’s expense.
