Listing Detail Tabs
This auction is for a 1950's-era walking doll and cot.
Given to my mother for her 8th birthday in 1954, this little lady is about 65 years old and in pretty good condition.
She has an articulated walking motion - as the legs move her head turns back and forth. When laid on her back her eyes close (most of the time, sometimes the mechanism needs a little tap or jiggle to make it work).
She used to talk or cry, but sadly is now mute. The talk/cry function was mechanical, activated by tipping the doll back and forth. It wasn't electronic. It's possible someone may be able to fix it. She also has a crack in her bottom, which might be fixable.
In the early 1980's the doll was given new hair and make-up, and given to my sister. About the same time, my father's parents won the cot in an auction, and gave it to my sister.
My mother made pyjamas for the doll, and bedclothes for the cot. There is a mattress, pillow, sheet, wool blanket, and pink satin cover.
The doll's red dress was also made by my mother.
She has been well loved for many decades and is now looking for a new home, perhaps with a collector or a young imaginative mind.
The doll is 50cm tall. The cot measures 69cm long, 42cm wide, and 38cm high.
