Description
Early wood and brass surveyors / builders levelling staff used to take levels along the ground or on pegs etc sighting it through a telescopic levelling instrument attached to a tripod. The wooden staff when clipped together is 8 foot 3 Inches long or 2.5 m long and the two sections clip together easily as there is a brass housing for the top piece to clip into and a button arrangement that locks the two sections together. The sections are 3.8 cm wide x 1.8 cm deep. It is marked on the front in feet and inches (feet in red). Some of the figures are quite worn but I guess this adds to the charm of this old piece of history. It would make a great display piece. Please see all the pics.
