This stirrup pump was most likely used to manually pump water out of leaky old vessels at sea. One foot was placed on the "stirrup" to hold the pump in place while hand-pumping.

This is a great ornament to display in your entrance-way (for example). It looks to be made of brass, copper and iron/steel. It has been cleaned-up nicely, while leaving some of the patina and pitting (not making it look too new). I have not been able to find out how old it is.
