Description
This is a rare piece of silverplate, in an exceptionally sought after style by German firm WMF. “WURTTEMBERGISCHE METALLWARENFABRIK”, or WMF is a company revered for their design and production of silver plate products, and is especially celebrated for their Art-Nouveau pieces.
This gorgeous Art Nouveau inkwell/business card tray dates near the turn of the century, and has a few hallmarks. The ‘B’ mark indicates the vase metal for this piece is Brittannia metal, which I understand makes this a rarer piece. Also has a WMF hallmark, and an OX (indicating it has an oxidised finish). There also looks to be a £ symbol underneath these, although I have no idea what this represents. Also marked “232”.
Exceptionally elegant Jugendstil decoration, with nude figure & floral embellishment. The piece is in very good condition, with some tarnishing, and there looks to be pitting around the figure and inkwell - although I’m not sure if this is as a result of use or manufacturing.
Measures approximately: 18cm x 19cm
Pickup is in Eden Terrace. Please feel free to ask any questions, Thanks!
