Description
The Zimbabwe Post Office (in its second year of operation after having taken over from the former Rhodesia Post) issued this attractive set of stamps on 23rd September 1981 to celebrate the International Year for Disabled Persons.
Here is the full set on an unaddressed FDC.
SG 602 - 605.
===
A large number of disabled folks are victims of war & violence. This is especially the case in Zimbabwe, so the IYDP was seen as an occasion to stress co-operation to establish world peace. We also need to bring a change of attitude to disabled folks. The prejudiced view that they are liabilities must be replaced by the enlightened view that they are individuals who encounter special difficulties in developing their human potentials & in meeting their needs.
Societies tend to cater only for folks who are in possession of their physical & mental facilities. This must be challenged so that ALL members of society, including those with disabilities, are provided with access to all forms of activities, be they social, health, educational, cultural, or employment.
This FDC includes a card with details on the issue, including print quantities.
