New Zealand Kauri Agathis australis

Length 159cm
Width of Blade at its widest point 5cm

I have here a beautiful Kauri Taiaha made from the off cuts of a 4,000 year old swamp Kauri tree from the far north. The Taiaha is a traditional NZ Maori weapon used skillfully in the right hands it can be devastating on ones opponent. The Taiaha represents the Tuna (EEL) from the shape of its head to its body right to its tail. Either end of the Taiaha could be used to thrust, parry or strike. This Taiaha is light and would be suitable for training, show, display or just to hold and admire. The Patina is beautiful . The blade has a nice natural curve to its end. The carver of this fine piece is Eria Solomon Gray of Ngati Raukawa ki te Tonga and Ngati Kahungunu ki Whakaki Wairoa. Condition excellent.
