I have here an authentic NZ Maori Taiaha in the form of Maire, a New Zealand hard wood that was selected in olden times for its strength and hardness, in the right hands.If used with dexterity, cunning sliight of hand and body movement creating durability and prowess in close combat. The Taiaha by old time Maori was at most times their weapon of choice, It is known to inflict fractures, maim or death. The Taiaha representing the Tuna (EEL) as is with this Taiaha from its Tongue to the end of its blade. The patina is absolutely beautiful; the feathers are wild rooster,bound, with muka (Flax fibre). It is very heavy but if used properly well balanced. A good piece to display, practice,gift [ie]coming of age, or to have as an heirloom. The carver is Eria Solomon Gray of Ngati Raukawa kite Tonga, Otaki and Ngati Kahungunu, Ngai Te Ipu, Whakaki Wairoa. Condition excellent. Please click here to ask a question
