New Artist. This is pure art ! This piece was originally designed as a large table top. It is 2.8 Mtrs long and 780 mm wide. A new up coming Maori Artist is turning his hand to epoxy resin river tables and this is his first piece. The wood lengths are Macrocarpa. The Centre carving is Totara . The carving represents the battle between good and bad, the light and darkness or the good of man and the serpent. It has been charred to give a grainy coal appearance, very unusual. The carving is suspended in Ecopoxy resin which is imported from Canada and made from Soya-beans ! That’s right sustainable resin !
A total amount of 35 let’s of top quality resin was used and then 3 final coats of UV protectant food safe top coat to give a mirror glass effect and solid top feel.
The piece is on display in Te Ahu Centre museum Kaitaia and will remain there until March if not purchased before.
It must be seen to be appreciated.
It was meant to be a table but since it has gone on display many people say it would be much better appreciated standing up like it is as wall art in a Bussiness foyer or large boardroom. We would agree it comes to life standing up.
It has a name , Nga Tapuwai which means Sacred way / sacred path.
