Dr Carole Shepheard was a Professor of Fine Arts at The University of Auckland for many years before taking early retirement and shifting to live permanently in Kawhia in 2007. She set up Te Puti Art Studio for teaching, community art activities and to continue her practice as an exhibiting artist. Carole has exhibited both nationally and internationally with her work being in all major New Zealand Art collections including the Auckland Art Gallery and Te Papa Tongarewa. A multi-media artist Carole is interested in museum and private collections and uses this information in her art making. I Born in Taumaranui in 1945, Carole Shepheard graduated from Auckland University Elam School of Fine Arts in 1967. She then attended Auckland Teachers College in 1968. She has only recently retired as Professor of Fine Arts and Head of Postgraduate Studies at Elam in Auckland.

A highly-respected multimedia artist, her work is largely concerned with gender identity. She has pursued an active professional art career both nationally and internationally. In 2001 she opened an experimental project space - the Museum of Cultural Anxiety.

Carole Shepheard is a widely recognised New Zealand artist. She trained at Elam School of Fine Art and gained a Diploma in teaching. Shepheard has taught throughout New Zealand and overseas. Presently she lectures in printmaking at Elam Art School, Auckland.

Shepheard produces both limited editions of her work and one off original prints.
