Helen Steven, originally from Australia has lived in West Auckland for over 50 years. Now in her late 70’s, she has been painting for over 40 years and is a recognised artist within the New Zealand art community and has sold her works worldwide. Helen has no formal training but has participated in numerous workshops and demonstrations, and is currently tutoring a watercolour class in Waitakere City. She was awarded first prize for one painting at the 2000 Easter show and also first in watercolour for the Waitakere Arts Council in 2018 (the painting in this auction), amongst other accolades. A life member of the Waitakere Arts Council, Helen is best known for her watercolours (particularly on silk) but shows skill and expertise in oil, acrylic and pastel.
