"Kelly's Home, 119 Richmond Avenue, New Brighton" Circa 1915-1916. (with A Elizabeth Kelly in the dunes).
Watercolour 260mm x 340mm. With period frame 430 x 500mm.
Clearly signed Cecil F Kelly in watercolour bottom right.
Provenance: Estate realization. 1984 with Tasman Gallery, Christchurch
Condition: can be seen close up.Vibrant colours but a few small foxing marks
Born Christchuch Cecil studied under Van der Verden at Canterbury School of Art.
1905 won a Bronze Medal for portraiture. Continued studies in Europe. 1908 married fellow art student, Annie Elizabeth Kelly.
They made their home in Brighton, which becamea mecca for artists meetings, escpecially after Cecil was appointed art instructor at Canterbury School of Art.
The Kelly's often painted together plein air. Elizabeth won the Australian Archibald Prize for a portrait of Cecil in 1925.
Exhibitions include Royal Academy, royal Scottish Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, New Zealand Centennial Exhibition.
Represented in all major New Zealand Public Galleries.
