Triptych Hei Matau (Fish Hook)-Pikorua (Twist)-Manaia - Original Paintings, painted by myself. The Paintings are painted onto Canvas, 25cm x 30.5cm each and 2 cm deep, stretched over timber frames. The sides have been painted black and the Canvasses are strung, ready to hang.

Meaning of Hei Matau (Fish Hook): The Fish Hook represents strength and determination, brings peace, prosperity and good health. It is a symbol of authority and power and represents respect for the sea and for life in the sea. It provides good luck for a safe journey travelling over water. The Fish Hook was used as a practical Tool by the Maori People. Meaning for Pikorua (Twist): The Twist with its crisscross form represents the many paths of life and love and as such is regarded as the original eternity symbol. The twist shows the spiritual joining together of two people for eternity. Even though they might move away from each other on their own journeys, they will always come together again sharing their lives and blending to become one. It tells how the strength of bond of friendship, loyalty and love will last forever.

Meaning for Manaia (The Guardian): The Manaia is the carrier of supernatural powers. Traditionally depicted with the head of a bird, the body of a man and the tail of a fish, it represents sky, earth and sea and the balance between them. The Manaia is the holder of great spiritual energy and is the guardian against evil.
