Description
My name is Chris O'Regan and I am a metal smith working in the Celtic tradition. This original work is inspired by traditional Celtic design, and is titled Celtic Tree of Life (Crann Beatha) The Oak Tree was sacred to the Celts. Oak in Irish is Darach (DAH-rukh) this piece is handcrafted, individually etched and patinated (chemically coloured) by myself and so each work is unique. A resist is applied of the pattern to the copper, so when it is etched in acid, a bottom layer is eaten away and a top layer is left where no copper is dissolved. The piece is then dipped into a chemical liquid that turns it entirely black, permanently. It is sanded with sandpaper stripping the patination off the top layer revealing the copper but leaving it black on the lower surface. It is then sealed with an acrylic spray, glued to paper card with a textured surface resembling parchment and framed in a dark stained wood. Supplied with a card describing the work and how it is made. Size (of copper) 90mm Size (of frame) 230mm x 180mm Comes ready to hang or stand by itself.
