Vintage New Zealand photograph by George Chance. A less common work by the iconic photographer.

In tidy condition,the picture is very good, with one identifiable spot. The mat however is quite stained and demonstrates some foxing.
George Chance moved to New Zealand in 1909, he practiced as an optometrist, but also a photographer – and one who has become a celebrated icon of New Zealand landscape photography; particularly landscape photography.
“George Chance flew the flag for pictorialism in New Zealand – a style that stressed atmosphere over subject matter”
Collections of Chance’s works are held in many public and private collections – including the Auckland Art Gallery and Te Papa.
