Description
A captivating landscape in moody yet dulcet colours. A mesmerising composition, with forms constructed to be very complimentary.
There seems to be a certain duplicity in the work, simultaneously both serene and tumultuous. It’s lines and construction are reminiscent of Stanley Palmer prints of the same era.
The lithograph is ex-John Leech Gallery, and is framed in a heavy & extremely high quality oak frame. The work is in excellent condition - there are a few minor scrapes to the frame.
An excellent piece of art, and a wonderful retro/period decoration.
Mount Eden born in 1908, Pickmere always had the desire to be a professional artist. In 1937 she briefly attended Elam School of fine arts. Over time she exhibited with the Auckland Society of Arts, the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts & the Rutland Group.
In late 1963, Pickmere travelled to Paris and "attended S. W. Hayter’s Atelier 17 to study viscosity printing, a technique that enabled many colours to be printed simultaneously... From the early 1960s Pickmere mostly used Hayter’s colour-etching technique"
Her work is held in collections, the likes of the Auckland Art Gallery & Te Papa.
