All kids love going FISHING! and this resource is Magnetic 'Fishing for Words' at Levels 6-8

This ‘Teachers Timesaver’, which will be emailed to you as a .pdf file, includes 2 x 26 ‘fish shapes’ (10cm x 6cm) to add to your Independent Reading Activities, with each fish featuring a word from the Yellow list of basic sight words. (Ready to Read Levels 6-8)

This activity has been made with magnetic ‘fishing’ in mind.

You will need

• a short pole
• a length of string
• a small magnet

Instead of adding a paper clip to each fish, I add a small piece of magnetic tape to the fish. (A roll of magnetic tape with adhesive backing is one of the most useful buys for a classroom.)

You can either glue the reflective fish back to back, or make individual fish.

If you choose to make individual fish, the students can then go ‘fishing’ for matching pairs, so put back the fish they ‘catch’ if it is not needed and have another turn.

The resource is quite versatile and does not need to be magnetic. You can just cut out the fish individually, and the students can play card games like Memory, SNAP or FISH!
