Word recognition is a key component to reading success and students need lots of opportunities to practise high frequency words.

This Word Building resource will be a great addition to your Reading Rotation or Daily 5 activities, for students working at Levels 12-14

This resource, which will be emailed to you as a .pdf file, includes an A4 page for 26 high frequency words being reinforced at Green, in the form of a Word card 9 x 22 cm with the matching number of 4.5 cm x 4 cm blank Letter Tiles above.

The activity involves selecting the correct letter tiles to put into the blank spaces to match the word below.

As the students become more confident they can use the Cards and Letter Tiles with Dice.(Each of the Letter Tiles are numbered like Scrabble tiles)

Students throw the dice and can only select a Letter Tile from the tiles spread face up in front of them, that has the corresponding value to the dice, to Build the Word.

To add another dimension to the activity, as well as building the word, students can add up the total letter value of the word to find the highest value word in the set. (or have a competition with a buddy)

Also included are Number cards if students want to show the total of the letters in their words. e.g. =10

There are all the other letter alphabet tiles included in the set if students would like to choose words from around the room or build their names as part of the activity.
