The Writing With Psychology Series, published by Nelson's VJM Publishing, is a series of short, intense books about how to use the science of psychology to improve your fiction writing.

Book 1 (56 pages): Writing With the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. This book uses the famous MBTI to shed insight onto the nature of the characters in your story world and how they will interact with other characters. It also suggests where a character will have their strengths and weaknesses and what motivates and what scares them.

Book 2 (90 pages): 64 Elementary Story Types. This book is based around an esoteric model of the universe that involves the four basic elements of earth, water, air and fire, as well as another dimension that measures the quality of the character in the story and a third dimension relating to order, chaos and creation. It describes 64 archetypal stories and how you can use those to inspire your creative fiction.

Book 3 (72 pages): 16 Moral Dilemmas. There is a psychological theory that divides human motivations into 16 basic desires. This book is based upon the realisation that all of these desires can create moral dilemmas, depending on the character and the situation they are in. Writing about a moral dilemma that your protagonist has is an excellent way to make them appear real to the reader.

Book 4 (140 pages): Writing With the I Ching. Using the I Ching can help you find inspiration for your creative fiction. This book shows you how to use it to inspire a character, a story, and a basic dilemma to base your story around. This way, any one of the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching can provide a kaleidoscope view onto your story and help you see it with new eyes.
