Pierre Schoendoerffer Farewell to the King HB, an excellent read

In a part of the island of Borneo, occupied by the Japanese, two white men, an Englishman and an Australian, parachuted with the task of organizing the local resistance, the indigenous Murut. They meet another white man: Learoyd, Irish deserter, huge gray eyes, intractable ... The Muruts have made him their king. Learoyd agrees to put his people at the service of the two men.
