Ireland: 20th Century Architecture
Edited by Annette Becker, John Olley, & Wilfried Wang
200 pages with 176 full-colour and 363 black-and-white illustrations
This is the first extensive survey of Ireland's out standing 20th-century architecture, opening with a chronological, retrospective survey of the architecture to be found in Ireland today. In a series of essays, the influence of Irish- literature, politics, and national identity on the country's 20th century architecture is examined, as well as housing, town-planning and ecclesiastical architecture, and the relationship between building and landscape.
Over 50 buildings are presented in detail with photographs and original design drawings. These include the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, Dublin Airport, Temple Bar, the National Gallery of Photography, and Dublin’s University Campus.
The exceptional quality and diversity of architecture in Ireland has long deserved to be the subject of such a major study of international significance.
