Following an international conference organised at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw in September  2013, the book deals with the art of one of Poland's most outstanding and most independent post-war artists and aims at an reevaluation of his work in the international context of art history.

Andrzej Wroblewski (1927-1957) created his own individual, highly suggestive, and prolific formula of abstract and figurative painting that continued to inspire and became a reference point for several generations of artists who came after him. Not only was he a painter involved in political changes in Poland at the turn of the 1950s, but also a creator of an immensely evocative vision of war and the degradation of man, of intimate torments and collective symbols. Torn between political involvement and artistic experimentation, he created an individual formula for painting, which still inspires and serves as a benchmark for contemporary artists.
