Hardback book presented in marble effect slipcase, with wine coloured cloth edging. The slipcase is in reasonably good condition with some minor dents to the surface and some minor watermarking across the bottom. The book itself is in excellent condition. Michelangelo's "Three Pieta", now in Rome, Florence and Milan are introduced in this volume and captured in their entirety and close-up in various photographs. The St Peter's "Pieta" reflects the classical ideals of the Renaissance: calm and order. Traces of expressive drama appear in the "Pieta" of Santa Maria del Fiore, culminating in the unfinished Rondanini "Pieta", a tormented figure reflecting the artist's religious anxiety.
