This auction is for 2 books sold together .

They are both in good condition and from a smoke free home . The books are

** HOMEMADE compiled by Kim Knight , STORIES & RECIPES FROM NZ STOVE TOPS . this is a fascinating book in terms of NZ food culture and the changes we have made as Kiwis to our palate / food habits .

For example it was impossible to get quantities of olive oil way back then , you had to buy it from the chemist where it was sold in small quantities to treat cradle cap on babies scalps .!!

And Peter Batistich from Croatia made his own wine by planting a vineyard after he worked as a gumdigger in Northland after emigrating here aged 17 .

The editor has done a great job of putting together varied stories and recipes and I reckon there will be some you recognise and want to try ( like bramble jellyn) and others not so much ( likeMothers dead possum stew , ugh ! )

There are blank pages at the back of this hardback for you to include recipes of your own . Please note there is some scuffing to the cover ( see last photo ),

The 2nd book by SIMON & ALISON HOLST - MY OWN KIWI FAVOURITE , FAMILY RECIPE COLLECTION has lots of blank pages for you to write in YOUR favourites ,

But they have also included recipes that may be some of your favourites already such as oven baked fish & chips , corn fritters , cheescake , pineapple Xmas cake , fruit mincemeat for xmas tarts , and some pickle / chutney recipes .

These " skeleton " recipes will be useful in the interim when youre still gathering your repetoire of recipes from friends & family .

Its amazing how much memories of a person dear to us can live on through baking a recipe that they made for you ,

and the first book in particular illustrates just how important food is , in bringing people together and putting them at ease .
