Description
This is an auction for AT THE COURT OF KOREA by William Franklin Sands.
“AT THE COURT OF KOREA is a compelling blend of travel and international politics in the Far East. Selected when very young for the US Foreign Service, Sands was first sent to Japan in the early 1890’s. Having learnt Japanese and studied Japan’s national characteristics in some detail, he was then transferred to Korea where he proceeded to become the main advisor to the king, and remained so until his dramatic ousting two years later. It was while in Korea that Sands wrote these ‘Undiplomatic Memories’, a most revealing and perspicacious analysis of a changing country at the turn of the century.”
