Wellington Wellington: A history by Michael Fowl

"There is no reason why I should write a book on this city more than anyone else who knows Wellington its just that I love the place and am lucky enough to be its Mayor", writes Michael Fowler in the Introduction to Wellington Wellington.

Throughout the book his enthusiasm for his city shines through, beginning with his account ofits founding in 1840, right through to the building of the new Town Hall in 1981.
The personalities (including the mayors), the administration, the architecture, the relationship of the city with Government throughout the years, are all described in Michael Fowlers inimitable style. His feeling for the people of this cosmopolitan city, his comprehension of its history and his sense of humour all illuminate the book, as do the illustrations he has produced to complement it.
